Story Idea

1. For my story, I want to explore how playing video games are affecting students’ relationships with others.
2. I want to answer the questions or whether or not video games are actually harmful to forming relationships with others. In a recent study done at BYU, two students said that video games do affect relationships in a harmful way and directly correlated with other bad behaviors such as binge drinking and using drugs, but I want to see if this holds true at UT. This is important to the readers because this study was done using college students which are the main reader of our online publication and the video game industry has many college age people buying their products.
3. A slideshow would be the best option for this story because there are many pictures that could taken of this subject along with audio from different students who are being interviewed. Video games are a very interactive medium so it would be best to tell this story is in an interactive way as well.
4. I would plan to interview many students on this subject as well as professors such as Dr. Daly who specialize in interpersonal communications. Their quotes would provide the narration to the story and their pictures playing these games would provide the visual. Numbers from the recent study would be added to the slideshow as well as facts about the video game industry as a whole.
