Assignment 1

1. For my multimedia assignment, I would like to explore the growing trend of convergence of music, videos and now newspapers, magazines and books to digital and portable formats.
   
2. My story would be unique by analyzing the use of not only Web sites for free journalism and other entertainment, but the growing usage of other products and software. For instance, netflix and itunes for movies and music. I would like to especially focus on Kindle and how that is affecting the hard-copy sales of books as well as magazines and newspapers. I would like to answer two questions in my story:

• How are these technologies affecting businesses such as Barnes & Noble, Borders, Blockbuster, Best Buy and other businesses specializing in the sales of books, movies, CDs, DVDs, magazines and newspapers?
• Also, what does this mean for journalism? Are products such as Kindle a possible revenue-producing medium for newspapers and magazines?

3. A slideshow would be best to show all the new technology out today. I would show people using the software and products as well as the businesses mentioned above that are affected by these technologies and how they are adapting.

• Text: There are plenty of opportunities to gather informative text to describe what is going on in all the slides--the trends and technology as well as the effect they are having on the aforementioned businesses.
• Slideshow: The slideshow would first show all the new technology being used by young people today (Netflix, Kindle, iTunes, etc.) and then show the businesses affected by the usage (Best Buy, Blockbuster, Barnes & Noble, newspapers) and how they are or arn't adapting to these changes.
